St Patrick's Day Parade '09..

The parade is always a bunch of fun, and this year was certainly no exception. I really only managed to catch the tail end of it because there was so much happening in the park, but by the time I arrived the merriment was in full swing. The annual 'party on the street' usually lasts a bit over an hour, and then moves on to the various English themed pubs around the place. It's always been a little surreal to me, seeing so many Japanese people dressed in green and getting involved in a celebration of the famous St. Pat, but just goes to show that this town certainly knows how to put on a good party..

Elvises Inc.

There was some major backjob action going down amongst the Elvises last Sunday. In Japan (China, Asia et al.), dragons are generally seen as creatures that protect Buddhism. Add equal parts of denim and leather, and a heavy dose of 50's rocknroll music, and you get the famous dancing Elvises of Yoyogi park..

Come out and (cos)play!

The cold Tokyo winter afternoons are no deterrent for these guys, then again the humid summer ones aren't either. One thing I can never understand though, is the way some of cosplayers hide in the darker corners of the famous Harajuku bridge and shy away from the cameras. Okay, so they're probably in need of some downtime but jeez.. they put loads of money and time into dressing up like all manner of monsters and freaks, then go out into a crowded public place in one of the most populated cities in the world just to get all coy when a lense is pointed at them?

Still, there are enough extroverts happy enough to strike a pose to make this place easily one of the more interesting spots to visit on a quiet Sunday afternoon in Tokyo..

Gotham city..

Okay, so this aspect of Tokyo is pretty played out I know, but the Goths of Harajuku always make for an interesting photo or two. Gotham city (Bat girl) here in particular has post-worthy written all over her, the others, maybe not so much..

Golfish Bloke revisited

Walking around Harakjuku this afternoon and, well I just couldn't miss an opportunity to give old きんぎょうさま (kingyou samma) a bit of good old fashioned brog rub!
